This is the first part - out of measly two - on handling critiques. It's executed in my special home-brewn style, better known as "WHY, GOD, WHY?!" and hopefully will provide some useful insights along with a little chuckle.

Have fun!

Edit, 20.01.06.: Wow, a DD! A huge thanks to you, =Doubtful-Della and $Moonbeam13! Also, thanks a lot to everyone else who has commented, fav'ed or just viewed it. I really appreciate it!

Thanks to your handy suggestions, I've fixed a few typos and made other adjustments to the text. It's a real pity they took [link] info down (which I have now replaced with [link] link).

Great job on describing how to be a critique. I gotta say, criticizing isn't easy, but as said, I always try to balance both goods and bads.

There's two things I recognized in there that happened to me and I was not too happy about it. First off, the constant negative critique. I take critiques pretty well, but if the person criticizing can't find anything good to say, I WILL get irritated. One of my teachers was like that. Worst, he would just say "Well, don't tell me you can't see this doesn't work?" And he wouldn't tell me what he thought was was wrong, just pointed at a portion of the pic and made me go o_O? I eventually told him "If I knew what was wrong, I wouldn't have done it, don't you think?"

That and the red lines. That really annoyed me. That was um... about 4 years ago I think. My bf showed an illustration to some people on the net and the next thing I know someone had sent me back the illustration with a bunch of lines to show me where I went wrong according to him, and how well, nothing in the face of the character worked, etc. I never asked for this and felt rather insulted. Mind you, I HAVE done the same thing for others, but I ALWAYS asked if it was alright for me to do so BEFORE. So had he asked me first, I wouldn't have been insulted at all. Maybe get the usual 2 mins depression and 'man I suck' then would've worked back on it ;) lol

Anyways, great work on this tutorial! :D

Hehe. Well it depends if they're asking for your point of view or just a crit, ya know. The idea in 4 is to not pass one as the other, marking personal view as such if you do include it.
